University of Mary Washington

The Kenmore Inn is conveniently located near the University of Mary Washington. A perfect place to stay for family members graduation, home coming or any other school event. They also offer frequent seminars that are open to the public.

Kenmore Plantation

The Kenmore Plantation was built and the 1770s and was the home of George Washington’s sister Betty Washington Lewis and her husband Fielding. It is well known for having some of the most impressive plaster work on many of it’s rooms ceilings. Tours are offered by the George Washington Foundation.

Chatham Manor

Mary Washington House

Just one block from The Kenmore Inn, located at 1200 Charles St, is the last home of Mary Ball Washington. Purchased by George Washington in 1772, this 18th-century period home now operates as a museum offering daily guided tours. Visit the Washington Heritage Museum for more information.

Rising Sun Tavern

Built as a home in 1760 by Charles Washington, younger brother of George Washington, it later became a well known tavern during the Revolutionary War. Visited by many, including John Marshall, James Madison and Thomas Jefferson, the tavern now has reenactments of eighteenth-century life.

Hugh Mercer's Apothecary Shop

This18th-century pharmacy, founded by Hugh Mercer, treated the citizens of Fredericksburg with the medicines and treatments available at the time. While you won’t be given leeches or snakeroot today, it does provide an interesting look at 18th-century life.

Fredericksburg National Cemetery

Established in 1865, Fredericksburg National Cemetery is the final resting place for more than 15,000 Union soldiers who died in the Civil War. Visit the National Parks Service for more information.
